TL DR: Unless Koei absolutely needs moneyhats to get more Fatal Frames out, it's better for the survival of the series if they stay independent and Fatal Frame ends up on as many systems as possible. People are always rooting for their favorite big plattform holder to swallow up smaller studios, but remember that those companies leave tons of old and/or small IPs rotting in their cellars as well, so that wish can turn out to be a real monkey's paw. And unlike Koei they didn't even bother with any revival attempts for the series' anniversaries, even if just a port of an older HD title: a Youtube video was all we got.
Meanwhile Sony has been leaving their own Siren series (also excellent but underperforming Japanese survival horror with similarly strong roots in Japanese culture and folklore like Fatal Frame) to rot for well over a decade ( Siren: Blood Curse came out in 2008 D: !).
